The Right to an Alternative

The March for the Alternative that took place last Saturday was another great example of young people involving themselves in politics. The sheer diversity of age and occupation present that day, highlighted the unity of opinion among many people in concern over the government’s spending cuts policy.

The police service acted responsibly and correctly in dealing with the violence in Trafalgar Square, violence which must not detract from the voice expressed by 500,000 protestors who turned out. The right to express an alternative to the government is one that must not be ignored. The example set on March 26th should be repeated as often as possible where citizens disagree with policy. I want young people to lead this cause and take control of politics in their life.
