On the 14th May Sheffield is to host the next Yorkshire and Humberside Regional sitting of the UKYP. Harry and his fellow Sheffield members are currently in the process of planning the day’s events, in what they hope will be a productive, campaign driven series of workshops for the region’s young representatives. Having met newly elected members in March, Harry intends to use Sheffield’s position as host to deeply involve all MYPs in the various projects that the city is currently leading.
At noon after the sitting’s delegates arrive from all areas of Yorkshire and Humberside, there will be a question and answer session with Sheffield Members of Parliament. Harry stated that “These sorts of face to face discussions between MYPs and MPs gives young people an important link to their Westminster representatives, and allows MYPs to hold them to account over youth issues”.
Following this Q&A, there will be several workshops led by Harry – as Campaign Coordinator, to formally introduce the regional campaign to support Young Carers to the sitting’s delegates. Having already provided and published a plan for the Young Carers’ Card project, it’s Harry’s intention to update the regional MYPs at what stage the Sheffield campaign is at and then to address the progress that each of the region’s MYPs needs make for the Young Carers in the communities they represent.
Harry Commented: “The regional summits enable Members of the Youth Parliament to engage collectively on the issues important to them, and to their young constituents. I am very proud that Sheffield will be hosting the regional and that the bulk of the agenda is devoted to supporting Young Carers. Yorkshire and Humberside UKYP recognize that provision for Young Carers is a valuable contribution we can make to society and to the lives of those young people who put others before themselves every single day”
