Yorkshire and Humberside UK Youth Parliament regional meeting took place on Saturday 2nd July and all MYPs from the region headed to Leeds for a day of campaign planning, debate and discussion of the work being undertaken in each local constituency, as well as the regional Young Carers Campaign. One of the main outcomes of the meeting was a letter sent to all Members of Parliament in Yorkshire and Humberside, inviting them to the Annual Sitting of UKYP. Due to take place from 22nd-24th July, Harry and all MYPs in Britain will gather to promote youth issues and decide policy for the next 12 months.
Harry is a strong advocate of this sort of regional democracy in the UK Youth Parliament which he believes should be made stronger to support MYPs, in light of a weakened national body, following cuts to UKYP’s budget. So far this year, the regional group have launched successful campaigns protecting vunerable young people let down by the coalition’s policies and disproportionate cuts to local youth services.
“These regionals are incredibly useful events where ideas are pooled, decisions made on the work the region does, and invited MPs are held to account by MYPs. It brings out the best result for our northern region, benefiting our constituents with tailored campaigns to the issues in Yorkshire and Humberside. We are passionate about involving young people in our constituencies, ambitious in our attempts to make society fairer, and firm in our efforts to increase support for the more disadvantaged people we represent”
