House of Commons 2011 – Nov 4th

The UK Youth Parliament is to once again debate in the House of Commons. Harry and his fellow MYPs made history in 2009 when they became the first organisation other than MPs to sit and debate from the green benches of the Commons. At the sittings MYPs debate issues important to young people and vote on UKYP policy for the next year.

Last year Harry spoke in the debate on British involvement in Afghanistan. Other topics were tuition fees, transport and the teaching of sex education. For 2011 the House of Commons debate will be held on November 4th and broadcast live on BBC Parliament.

“This will be my final opportunity as an MYP to take part in the Commons debate, so I’m really looking forward to it . Young people’s views being expressed by people they’ve elected is a great display of the good we can achieve if we involve ourselves in our democracy” – Harry
